On Friday, the Winnipeg Jets announced that veteran defenseman Grant Clitsome would be lost for the year after undergoing back surgery.

“Clitsome underwent season-ending back surgery yesterday at the Marina Spine Center in Marina del Rey, California,” the club said in a statement. “The surgery was performed by renowned back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins, Sr.”

There was no information available as to the type of injury Clitsome suffered, or the severity. It’s also not known what the timetable for return is from the procedure (or, what exactly the procedure entailed.)

Clitsome, 28, was in the midst of a career campaign before getting hurt in mid-December. He had 12 points through 32 games and was averaging close to 20 minute per night, in what was the first of his three-year, $6.2 million deal signed with the Jets in July.
