Ladd on Noel firing: ‘It’s not an easy day’

For many, it seemed like it was just a matter of time before the Winnipeg Jets fired Claude Noel (some even think they put him out of his misery). It’s not so easy when you’re a part of the team, however, as captain Andrew Ladd told the Canadian Press that it “always comes as a shock.”

“I don’t think anyone expected it this morning so it’s not an easy day,” Ladd said. “Two good people lose their job. Ultimately, it came down to the performance of all the guys in here. It’s tough for everyone.”

(Assistant coach Perry Pearn was also dismissed.)

GM Kevin Cheveldayoff gave a wide-ranging press conference addressing the firing, spreading the blame even though Noel and Pearn were the two to go.

The message seems simple and reasonable enough: Cheveldayoff and the players he acquires/retains need to generate better results for Paul Maurice than they did for Noel.
