Philly forward Matt Read, who hasn’t played since Dec. 31, has suffered a concussion and will remain sidelined through this weekend, according to Flyers Inside Out.
Read, 27, hasn’t suited up since facing Calgary on New Year’s Eve and has missed Philly’s last three contests. News of the concussion came as a bit of a surprise -- the Flyers initially said it wasn’t a concussion because Read passed his baseline test, only to reverse that diagnosis when symptoms later appeared.
“He’s not doing too good,” Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said, per CSN Philly. “It’s safe to say he has symptoms of a concussion. Initially, he passed all the [baseline] tests that are required by the protocol. Right now, he doesn’t feel right.”
A former Bemidji State standout, Read has 10 goals and 19 points in 39 games this year and is one of the club’s most versatile forwards, averaging nearly 20 minutes per night. He signed a four-year, $14.5 million extension with the Flyers just prior to the start of the regular season.
