Devils put Volchenkov on IR

The New Jersey Devils have placed defenseman Anton Volchenkov on IR and called up forward Mike Sislo from AHL Albany, the club announced on Friday.

Volchenkov, placed on IR retroactively to Dec. 27 (the date of his last game, a shootout loss to Columbus), is out with “general body soreness” but believed to be close to a return. His IR designation paves the way for Sislo, a career minor-leaguer, to make the jump up to the NHL and possibly make his debut tonight against the defending Cup champion Blackhawks.

No pressure, kid.

UPDATE: Sislo is in...

Mike Sislo will be third Devil to make NHL debut this season, joining Jon Merrill and Reid Boucher.

Sislo, 25, has 20 points in 27 games with Albany this season and comes up on the same day the Devils waived former first-rounder Mattias Tedenby and activated Ryan Carter from IR.
