Flames tough guy Brian McGrattan doesn’t think he deserved a five-minute major and game misconduct for elbowing Vancouver defenseman Andrew Alberts last night in Calgary (video).

“It’s a shoulder-to-shoulder hit,” McGrattan said, per Kristen Odland of the Calgary Herald. “Unfortunately, he went down. My elbow wasn’t up, my shoulder wasn’t up, I didn’t target the head. So, that’s my take on it.”

Alberts was forced to leave the game and reportedly has a concussion. As a result, the Canucks called up defenseman Frankie Corrado from AHL Utica today.

The Flames haven’t heard anything from the NHL regarding a possible hearing for supplementary discipline.
