Staal resumes skating, says prior concussion experience is helping now

New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal has dealt with concussions before and, while he’s been out of action since December 8 with one, he resumed skating on Saturday.

Staal says his prior experience dealing with a concussion helped him make sure he’s not rushing back this time as Larry Brooks of the New York Post shares.

“The last time, I played through a concussion for so long, the effects dragged on forever,” the Rangers’ alternate captain said Sunday morning. “This one is different. From day-to-day afterward, I’ve felt better, quicker. There is no comparison.”

The Rangers have struggled and so too has Staal this season. Having him rush back into the lineup would’ve been counterproductive on a couple levels.

Now that he’s making sure he’s 100-percent right before getting back to action, it’ll be worth watching to see how it affects Staal’s play when he returns. If he can bounce back and play like he’s capable, it will go a long way to making things better for the Rangers.
