As expected, the Minnesota Wild have assigned defenseman Matt Dumba to Canada’s junior team so he can participate in the upcoming World Junior tournament, which runs Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Sweden.

Dumba, 19, was the Wild’s first-round pick (seventh overall) in 2012. He’s played 13 games this season, scoring once with one assist.

Canada’s selection camp begins Dec. 12, with the final 22-man roster finalized by Dec. 25.

It’s also possible that Toronto defenseman Morgan Rielly will be loaned to Canada. The Maple Leafs have yet to make a decision on that.
