Henrik Lundqvist will be the King of New York a little while longer.
Lundqvist was due to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but he was eager to stay with the team. Now he’ll be a Ranger until he’s 39-years-old. Unless he has a Martin Brodeur-like run age-wise, this extension should make him a New York Ranger for life.
The timing of this announcement is made all the more fun after the “controversy” that erupted this week when coach Alain Vigneault started his backup, Cam Talbot, two games in a row, a decision Lundqvist himself supported.
Not that there were any real doubts about Lundqvist’s tenure in New York in the first place, but he’ll be holding down the Rangers net until 2021.
