The Washington Capitals were looking to respond after a nasty 4-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday. Instead they surrendered three early goals to the Montreal Canadiens en route to losing their second straight contest.
“Sometimes when I’m up here I’m more frustrated than others,” Capitals coach Adam Oates told CSN Washington. “Tonight I’m a little more mad at the older guys for [not] helping the young kids out.”
Oates even took issue with Alex Ovechkin. The superstar netted his 18th and 19th goals of the season to at least make things interesting, but he also took a bad roughing penalty midway through the third period.
It was one of five minor penalties the Capitals were charged with last night. Montreal converted on one of its power-play opportunities.
“We had too many penalties again, that’s four games in a row,” Oates said.
Washington will try to rebound tonight in Toronto.
