Capitals put forth ‘extremely disappointing’ performance against Penguins

The Washington Capitals had a chance to pull ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Metropolitan Division on Wednesday.

Instead, they were badly outplayed and, subsequently, badly beaten on home ice. Rather than jumping into first in the division, the Capitals fell three points behind.

That is the result of a 4-0 loss to the rival Penguins.

“It’s disappointing. Extremely disappointing,” said Capitals defenseman Karl Alzner, as per NHL.com.

“We had a chance to be in first place and to beat the team we are battling against. That would have been really nice. But we get another crack at them a little further down the road.”

The next time the Capitals play the Penguins: Jan. 15 – in Pittsburgh. That means the Capitals will have to wait almost two months for revenge.
