Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals chased Jaroslav Halak out of Sunday’s game in less than 16 minutes, as he allowed three goals on just six shots.
Ovechkin collected two of those tallies, pushing his season total to 17, tying Alexander Steen for the league lead. (For now, at least.)
Here are the two Ovechkin goals. The first one came 7:17 into the first period:
The second one came about five minutes later:
Mikhail Grabovski scored the goal that sealed Halak’s fate for the night, notching his seventh for the season. We’ll see if Brian Elliott and the St. Louis Blues can turn it around after falling behind 3-0.
Update: the Capitals ended up winning 4-1 thanks to that 3-0 opening and 46 saves by Braden Holtby.
