Varlamov hires new lawyer, pushes court date to Dec. 2

Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov hired a new attorney and pushed his court date to Dec. 2, the Denver Post reports. Adrian Dater tweets that his new lawyer is named Saskia A. Jordan.

Technically speaking, Varlamov hasn’t officially been charged with a crime stemming from that Oct. 30 arrest (for a second-degree alleged kidnapping and third-degree assault). That’s because he Denver District Attorney’s Office hasn’t received the case from the police department, according to the Denver Post.

In the meantime, the 25-year-old netminder can continue to travel with the team until at least Dec. 2 - including Tuesday’s game against the Hurricanes in Carolina - while the Post points out that police can use that extension to potentially present a case to Denver’s DA.

Long story short, things are getting pushed back. We’ll see if this situation affects Varlamov and the Avalanche’s season beyond being a distraction.
