Winchester will have NHL hearing for elbowing Kelly

Winchester hit

The Florida Panthers’ Jesse Winchester delivered an elbow to the head of Boston’s Chris Kelly in the first period of Thursday’s game. The Panthers forward didn’t receive a penalty for his actions, but he might not escape punishment entirely.

The NHL has scheduled a phone hearing with Winchester, according to Sportsnet’s John Shannon.

If you missed the incident, you can view it below:

Gregory Campbell fought Winchester on his next shift in defense of Kelly. Afterwards, Kelly called Winchester one of the NHL’s nicest guys, although he was still grateful for what Campbell did, reports the Boston Globe’s Fluto Shinzawa.

Kelly was able to log 16:11 minutes and registered an assist in Boston’s 4-1 win. Winchester accounted for the Panthers’ only goal.
