Video: NHL fines Murphy for clipping Dorsett, who calls hit ‘dirty’

The NHL has fined Carolina defenseman Ryan Murphy for a clip on Rangers forward Derek Dorsett during the Hurricanes’ 5-1 loss on Saturday.

Following the game, Rangers head coach Alain Vingeault voiced his displeasure with the hit.

“I mean, in my opinion, that’s real dangerous,” Vigneault said. “Any time you’re going for knees, you’re looking at career-ending injuries here.”

“That was borderline very, very dangerous.”

On Monday, Dorsett spoke about the incident for the first time, as per the Bergen Record...

Dorsett said, during scrum, Murphy was saying to him, “Hip check, hip check.” Dorsett didn’t buy it. Says he’s never had a hit like that.

Murphy, who received a minor penalty on the play, will forfeit $2,213.68 in salary, the maximum permitted under the CBA. The money will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
