Video: Goalies brawl in wild Caps-Flyers melee

Philadelphia was 3-8-0 going into tonight’s contest against the Washington Capitals. The Flyers quickly fell behind 3-0, which led to starting goaltender Steve Mason being pulled.

And then things actually got worse.

With superstar Alex Ovechkin on the sidelines, the Flyers surrendered goal after goal in what has turned into a massive blowout defeat at home. Tempers finally boiled over to the point where the Flyers engaged in a massive brawl at 5:31 of the third period.

Even netminder Ray Emery, who replaced Mason, got in the action by picking a fight with Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby. Emery got an instigator penalty, a five-minute major for fighting, and a game misconduct for his actions.

Goalie brawls are rare, but this isn’t even the first time Emery has dropped his glove. He also participated on a fight in 2007 when he was still with the Ottawa Senators, which you can see below:
