In a Pacific Division match-up Tuesday night, it was the Phoenix Coyotes who came away victorious over the L.A. Kings.
Coyotes goalie Mike Smith was solid, making 41 saves as Phoenix defeated the Kings 3-1. It’s not really just another win.
The Coyotes are part of a five-team pack that is separated by only five points in the newly re-formed and already intensely competitive Pacific Division.
San Jose, Anaheim and Vancouver all sit ahead Phoenix in the division standings, but the Coyotes have gotten off to a good start with an 8-3-2 record. The Kings represent that fifth team, and they’re only two points back of the Coyotes.
“We want to belong with teams like this and to be up there with them, you’ve got to win your head-to-head matches,” said Coyotes forward Kyle Chipchura, as per Sarah McLellan of Azcentral Sports.
#Coyotes hold off #Kings, winning 3-1. They improve to 5-0-1 on home ice.
