Video: Spezza leads Senators over Alfredsson, Red Wings

For the first time ever, Daniel Alfredsson played his old team, the Ottawa Senators. And for the veteran forward, who played 1,178 regular season games for Ottawa, it was a forgettable reunion.

The Senators, thanks to a pair of goals from Jason Spezza, crushed the Red Wings 6-1. It was as if Spezza, the new Senators captain, exclaimed to his long-time and now former teammate that Ottawa’s team is now his team.

Below is a video clip of Spezza’s first of the night, which came on the power play just past the midway point of the first period.

Just a backgrounder on this: Alfredsson, who played 17 seasons with the Senators, signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Red Wings this summer.

“Obviously I’ve got a lot of good friends on the other side. I think it will be a relief once the puck drops,” Alfredsson said prior to the game. “There will be a lot of emotion going into the game … But it’s a bit exciting too.”
