Sharks don’t sign Anthony Stewart following PTO

The San Jose Sharks gave forward Anthony Stewart a shot with a professional tryout, but it didn’t work, the Mercury News’ David Pollak reports.

It appears that the team is opting for a more youthful look, as they retained three rookies for now (not that Stewart is decrepit at 28).

As the 25th pick of the loaded 2003 NHL Draft, Stewart hasn’t worked out for the Florida Panthers or any other team that gave him a shot. His best campaign came with the then-Atlanta Thrashers in 2010-11, as he scored 14 goals and 39 points in 80 contests.

Stewart didn’t play in the NHL in 2013, so as of this moment, his last bit of NHL action came when he scored 20 points in 77 games with Carolina in 2011-12.

Perhaps we’ll see him in the NHL again, but it might not be for a while.
