The Florida Panthers signed a “proven winner” in goalie Tim Thomas, but he’s not the only Stanley Cup champion they added to the mix. The team also added retired forward John Madden as a pro scout on Thursday.
“We are thrilled to have John join our scouting staff,” Panthers GM Dale Tallon said. “He is a three-time Stanley Cup winner and brings to our organization a wealth of experience and knowledge of the game.”
The 40-year-old played his last NHL games with the Panthers in 2011-12, collecting three goals in 31 games played.
He’s best known for his long term with the New Jersey Devils (where he won two Stanley Cups) and added a championship with Chicago in 2010, too. He also played 76 games for the Minnesota Wild in his penultimate campaign in 2010-11.

Overall, he played in 13 NHL seasons. Not bad for an undrafted free agent.
Madden spent last season scouting for the Montreal Canadiens, so he already has some experience with this type of gig.
