Jets release White from PTO

Ian White

The Ian White experiment in Winnipeg lasted less than two weeks.

On Friday, the Jets announced they released the veteran defenseman from his professional try out contract, which he signed on Sept. 10.

White, 29, didn’t appear in either of Winnipeg’s last two exhibition games. His most notable appearance was in a 3-1 loss to Ottawa on Sunday, when he logged a team-high 24:11 and led the Jets in blocked shots, with three.

An unrestricted free agent, White spent the past two seasons in Detroit, where he eventually fell out of favor with Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock.

A Manitoba native, White has 179 points in 503 career games with the Wings, Hurricanes, Sharks, Flames, and Leafs.
