Invites for everybody! Panthers to sign Gilbert to PTO

The Florida Panthers continued to corner the professional try out market on Monday, as ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun reported the team is expected to sign veteran defenseman Tom Gilbert to a PTO.

Gilbert, 30, spent last season in Minnesota before the Wild exercised a compliance buyout on his six-year, $24 million deal.

The longtime Edmonton blueliner posted a career-high 45 points in 2008-09, but has fallen on hard time since. He had just 13 points in 43 games for the Wild last year and saw his ice time decrease from 27:01 in 2011-12 to just 19:19 per game.

As mentioned above, Gilbert will become the latest veteran to accept an invite to Panthers camp.

Veteran netminder Tim Thomas is in Florida now and expected to join shortly. Prior to Thomas, 31-year-old forward Brad Boyes signed a PTO as well.

The club also offered tryouts to former goalie Jose Theodore and ex-Flyers netminder Ilya Bryzgalov.
