Rinne manages to go full speed as Preds camp kicks off

Thursday presented great news for the Nashville Predators, and not just because training camp kicked into gear. It turns out that Pekka Rinne was able to practice without “holding back,” the Tennessean reports.

“Peks looked great, no issues, and continues to keep doing the things we’re doing,” Head coach Barry Trotz said. “He’s having fun and moving freely and easily.”

Rinne, 30, underwent hip surgery on May 9.

Despite health questions, the Predators look primed to hand the Finnish netminder another heavy workload, as Carter Hutton looks to be his backup. (Hutton has exactly one game of NHL experience.)

Trotz ruled Rinne out of the Predators’ first two preseason games. The team would likely prefer that he can shake off the rust during training camp, however, so Nashville faces an important balancing act.
