Richardson gets one-year extension to coach Baby Sens

Luke Richardson 3

Binghamton Senators head coach Luke Richardson has received a one-year contract extension, the Ottawa Senators announced today.

Richardson, a former hard-hitting NHL defenseman (just ask Tony Granato), led the Baby Sens to a 44-24-1-7 record in 2012-13, his first season behind the bench.

Also receiving one-year extensions were assistant coaches Steve Stirling and Matt Meacham.

Prior to taking over in Binghamton, Richardson spent three seasons as an assistant in Ottawa.

Perhaps a head-coaching job in the NHL is in the 44-year-old’s future?

When you consider what he’s been through off the ice, it’s hard not to root for him.
