Kings re-sign Muzzin for two years

The Los Angeles Kings have avoided going to arbitration with promising young defenseman Jake Muzzin. The club announced today that a two-year deal has been reached with the 24-year-old.

Per TSN’s Darren Dreger, the contract is worth $2 million ($1 million in each season). Muzzin will be a restricted free agent when the deal expires.

Muzzin had seven goals and nine assists in 45 games this past season. His 16 points were the third most among NHL rookie defensemen, behind only Justin Schultz (27) in Edmonton and Patrick Wiercioch (19) in Ottawa.

A bit of a late-bloomer, Muzzin was originally drafted by the Penguins, 141st overall in 2007. He was signed by the Kings as a free agent in 2010.
