Al Montoya will be back with the Jets next season.
The backup netminder has agreed to an extension, the club announced on Thursday -- a one year, $601,000 contract, the exact same deal he signed with Winnipeg last summer.
The former No. 6 overall pick at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Montoya only appeared in five NHL contests prior to the 2010-11 campaign.
But he revived his career after signing with New York, appearing in 51 games for the Islanders from 2010-12. In 2010-11, he went 9-5-5 and a 2.39 GAA and .921 save percentage.
That led to his deal with the Jets.
Last year, Montoya served as Ondrej Pavelec’s backup and appeared in seven games, recording a 3-1-1 record with a 2.91 GAA and .899 save percentage.
