Once this game ends – and it will take more than 60 minutes, as it just entered overtime – there could be a wide array of storylines. Still, if the Chicago Blackhawks lose, they might have some serious concerns about their ability to hold onto a lead.
With less than five minutes left in the second period, Marcus Kruger gave the Blackhawks a 4-2 lead. That disintegrated quickly, however, as Patrice Bergeron scored twice to tie it up, with the 4-4 marker coming just two minutes into the third.
Patrick Sharp made a lot happen in that middle frame, yet he went without a goal. That changed in the third period, as he finally was rewarded … and on the team’s putrid power play, to boot:
That 5-4 lead was short-lived, as Johnny Boychuk sent this absolute laser beam beyond Corey Crawford’s grasp just a shade under a minute later:
This all makes Chicago’s eight-minute 1-0 lead in the first period seem downright lengthy.
The good news for both sides: no worries about holding a lead for the rest of this game, as the next goal is the game-winner. Tune in to NBC to see the rest.
