There’s been another new development in the possibility of the National Hockey League coming to Seattle.

Chris Daniels of King 5 TV and KING5.com in Seattle has reported that the city’s mayor, Mike McGinn, has acknowledged recent discussions with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.

“We believe we can support the NHL in Key Arena,” said McGinn, as per Daniels.

The fate of this bid to bring the NHL to Seattle could be decided by early next month.

Glenn Healy reported on CBC’s Hot Stove panel during Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Saturday that should Renaissance Sports & Entertainment be unable to close a deal with the City of Glendale by July 2, the Coyotes would be sold Ray Bartoszek and Anthony Lanza for $220 million and they would move the team to Seattle.

A move to Seattle would provide an instant geographical rivalry with the Vancouver Canucks.
