Feaster: ‘We won’t have any compliance buyouts’

Barring a trade, Matt Stajan will apparently remain a member of the Calgary Flames next season.

“We won’t have any compliance buyouts,” said Flames general manager Jay Feaster today.

Stajan was the prime Calgary candidate to be bought out before the salary cap falls to $64.3 million for next season. The 29-year-old has one year remaining on his deal, with a cap hit of $3.5 million.

But while Stajan has been largely disappointing since coming to the Flames from Toronto, he’s also one of the few experienced NHL centers on the roster.

Also worth noting: his actual salary is only $2.5 million, and the Flames aren’t really in cap trouble.

Calgary is slated to pick sixth overall at the upcoming draft; however, Feaster said the club has had “extensive conversations with other teams about moving up into the top five.”
