Minnesota inks Veilleux to an extension

31-year-old forward Stephane Veilleux wasn’t able to crack the Minnesota Wild’s roster during the 2013 regular season, but he’s decided stick with the organization.

The Wild announced that they have signed Veilleux to a two-year, two-way contract.

For five straight campaigns, Veilleux logged at least 71 games per season, primarily as a bottom-six forward. That trend was broken in 2011-12 and this year he didn’t play for Minnesota until its first-round series against the Chicago Blackhawks. Veilleux had no points and six hits in two playoff contests.

He has 46 goals, 55 assists, and 317 penalty minutes in 460 career NHL games. The 2001 third-round draft pick also ranks eighth in Minnesota’s franchise history in terms of games played and is 10th on the team’s all-time penalty minutes list.
