Pens coach calls 2013 a missed opportunity

Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma praised his team’s work in the last two games of the 2013 Eastern Conference finals, saying they “fought as hard as any game I’ve been a part of” in Game 3. That doesn’t mean he’s sugarcoating the letdown, however.

Bylsma acknowledged the significant expectations the team brought into the playoffs, which the team didn’t live up to in being swept by the Boston Bruins.

“Our team considered itself capable of winning a Stanley Cup. Those were our expectations from day one,” Bylsma said. “Coming up short [of Stanley Cup] is no question disappointing. No question you’re going to look at this as a missed opportunity.”

It remains to be seen if he’ll get another chance with the Penguins next season.
