Lightning say Lacroix won’t return as assistant coach next season

Dan Lacroix joined the Tampa Bay organization in 2010, along with then-head coach Guy Boucher -- and when Boucher was fired in late March, he probably saw the writing on the wall.

Today, that writing was made official as the Bolts announced Lacroix wouldn’t be behind the bench next season.

Lacroix’s deal was due to expire in June and, with new head coach Jon Cooper likely to fill out his own staff, it never seemed as though a holdover from the Boucher regime was going to survive.

As for what the future holds? The Bolts said the door is not closed on Lacroix to remain with the organization, but he is free to explore other coaching opportunities.

Lacroix, 44, does have a wealth of NHL coaching experience.

He spent three years with the Islanders organization (working under Ted Nolan and Scott Gordon) before joining Boucher in AHL Hamilton and, eventually, Tampa Bay.
