‘Hawks could make Stalberg a healthy scratch

Viktor Stalberg

It appears Viktor Stalberg might be on his way to the press box.

On Monday, the Swedish forward was wearing a white jersey and didn’t skate with any of Chicago’s top four lines during practice, and didn’t exactly get a vote of confidence from Joel Quenneville for playing in Game 1 against Detroit.

“We’ll see,” the ‘Hawks coach told ESPN about Stalberg’s status for the series opener.

Stalberg, 27, had a breakout campaign in the Windy City last season, scoring 22G-21A in 79 games.

He proceeded to post 9G-14A in 47 games this year, but has seen his production taper off significantly during the playoffs.

In the opening round against Minnesota, Stalberg registered just one assist and was called out by Quenneville (along with struggling forward Brandon Saad).

“You don’t always feel like you have to make a play,” Quenneville said. “Use your speed, put it in areas where sometimes it might be for races and try to keep the puck and sometimes have some offensive zone shifts.”
