Throughout the playoffs, Mike Ribeiro has been quiet when it came to scoring goals. Sure, he was able to get Ryan Callahan to think he’d take a slap shot from near the blue line in Game 2 that led to Mike Green’s overtime winner, but getting one of his own eluded him.
That is until last night when he scored an overtime winner of his own. Caps forward Mathieu Perreault felt Ribeiro had one coming as he tells Katie Carrera of The Washington Post.
“He was due,” Perreault said. “He hadn’t scored in a while and he’s been working out, doing a lot of good things for us and he finally got that goal. It was huge”.
The goal was his first of the playoffs and his first since an April 18 loss to Ottawa. It was only his second point of the series as well and the first since his assist on Green’s Game 2 winner. If it’s going to be tough to get points, getting them when it counts the most sure helps. The Caps will look to close out the Rangers tomorrow afternoon at Madison Square Garden in Game 6.
