Max Pacioretty played with separated shoulder

The Montreal Canadiens were bounced from the 2013 playoffs on Thursday, so that means that their injury report might feature something new: transparency. The first bit of evidence is that Max Pacioretty’s “upper-body” issue is actually a separated shoulder.

Pacioretty was a scratch in Game 2 and played through the remaining three contests in the Habs’ first-round series with the ailment, the Montreal Gazette’s Dave Stubbs reports.

Logically enough, the 24-year-old suffered the injury in Game 1. He was unable to score a single point in his four appearances in this series, but he told TSN’s John Bartlett that he won’t use the injury as an excuse.

In just three NHL seasons, Pacioretty’s seen a lot of ups and downs, but it’s clear that he’s willing to play through pain.
