The Detroit Red Wings will eventually be moving out of Joe Louis Arena and into a brand new building, although there is no exact date as of yet.
“Everybody is working hard and there’s positive progress,” Chris Ilitch, the president and CEO of Ilitch Holdings told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
“I’d prefer not to make any predictions and just keep working away and continue to do our due diligence and see what we can put together.”
Joe Louis Arena first opened in 1979 and, according to the Associated Press, is among the oldest arenas in the National Hockey League.
On Feb. 3, Bill Shea of Crain’s Detroit Business, citing Mark Rosentraub, a professor of sports management at the University of Michigan, reported that construction on a new downtown arena was expected to begin “no later than autumn.”
