Video: Bruins honor victims, first responders of Boston Marathon tragedy

Prior to Wednesday night’s game against the Buffalo Sabres, the Boston Bruins paid tribute to the lives lost and heroic efforts from the bombings at Monday’s Boston Marathon.

The TD Garden screen played a ‘Boston Strong” video, which was followed by a moment of silence to honor victims and first responders.

Then, longtime anthem singer Rene Rancourt was joined by the Boston Fire Department Honor Guard -- and the Garden faithful -- for an emotional rendition of the National Anthem.

Shortly thereafter, Bruins forward Dan Paille opened the scoring -- just 5:45 into the first period -- with the assist going to Chris Kelly.

The goal and pregame tribute were received with a rousing ovation from the Bruins faithful, who seemed genuinely touched by the organization’s outpouring of emotion.

“The efforts that have taken place from ownership, management, players and all our associates to put together the proper recognition at tonight’s game for those who responded, helped and comforted all those who have been affected by the tragic events this past Monday have been remarkable,” said Bruins President Cam Neely.

“Every member of our organization has assisted in many different ways to make sure we make Boston proud, make our fans proud and show what it means to call Boston home. I am very proud of our entire organization for the compassion and support they have all showed, although not surprised.

“We are all ‘Boston Strong.’”

During the second intermission, the Bruins will host an “8-Spoked-Saulte” for first responders. These salutes normally take place at select Bruins games throughout the year, honoring men and women of the Armed Forces.
