The soon-to-be-former owners of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings -- the Maloof family -- have met with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman about buying a hockey team, “with Las Vegas among the possible destinations,” according to a report in the Sacramento Bee.
Nothing else was reported on the NHL angle, as the story was mostly about the Kings’ potential move to Seattle. (Which could have other NHL implications.)
Even though it’s just a meeting, and we’re sure the commissioner has had meetings about all sorts of relocation/expansion possibilities, the story at at least gives us another opportunity to ponder how the NHL would fare in Vegas, which would obviously be a market like no other.
Would it be mostly locals that went to games, or would it be tourists?
Would the casinos have to take their NHL odds off the boards?
Would any of the Colorado Avalanche request a trade there?
Would there be a buffet?
