Jackets assign Jenner to AHL Springfield

The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned forward Boone Jenner to AHL Springfield after his junior team, the Oshawa Generals, was eliminated from the OHL playoffs.

Jenner had 82 points in 56 games this season for the Generals. The 19-year-old played five games for the Falcons in 2011-12, scoring one goal.

Drafted 37th overall in 2011, there was talk when the lockout ended that Jenner could be in the mix for an NHL roster spot, given he’s skilled enough to play in the top nine and physical enough for a fourth-line energy role.

The Jackets, however, decided to give him another year to develop in junior.
