Craig Anderson is set to play on Sunday

Craig Anderson

To the surprise of many, the Ottawa Senators shrugged off Craig Anderson’s injury to remain in about the same spot in the East’s playoff picture. Still, there should be little doubt that they’re happy to get him back on Sunday.

The 31-year-old netminder has been sidelined since Feb. 21 with a sprained ankle, possibly destroying what could have been an unlikely Vezina Trophy campaign (8-4-2 with an outstanding .952 save percentage, 1.49 GAA and two shutouts).

While the Senators franchise had enough confidence in potential goalie of the future Robin Lehner to trade Ben Bishop, their short-term hopes likely lie in Anderson.

For his part, he insists that he’s in good condition.

“I feel great. Got out there, had a really good day today. Every day is feeling better. We’re at that point now where we just have to make sure I’m feeling comfortable,” said Anderson. “We’ll leave that to the coach’s decision, but if they need me to play there really is no limitation now as to why I couldn’t.”

The Florida Panthers will be the first team to test that theory tonight.
