Sens’ goalie Anderson (ankle) practices

Not that the Senators are desperate for goaltending, but it sounds like they’re getting closer to having the early-season Vezina Trophy favorite back between the pipes.

Per the Ottawa Sun’s Bruce Garrioch, Craig Anderson was taking shots in practice today as his teammates prepared to host New Jersey tonight.

Anderson hasn’t played since Feb. 21 when he sprained his ankle in a game against the Rangers. At the time, the injury wasn’t considered serious.

While some progress has obviously being made, Garrioch reports that Anderson was “going down gingerly” at times today, and there’s still no timetable for the 31-year-old’s return.

Against the Devils, Ben Bishop will get the nod.

Bishop, along with youngster Robin Lehner and Anderson, have combined to give the Sens an NHL-best .938 save percentage -- probably the biggest reason Ottawa has remained in a playoff position despite significant injuries to key players.
