The Phoenix Coyotes have signed defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson to a six-year contract, the NHL club announced Friday.
Monetary terms of the deal were not disclosed by the Coyotes, however, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger, it appears to be a $33 million contract for the 21-year-old Ekman-Larsson, who is now in his third NHL season.
“Oliver is an exceptional young player who will continue to improve as he matures,” Coyotes general manager Don Maloney said in a statement on the team’s website.
“He is an important part of our future and we are pleased to have agreed on a long term contract.”
Last year, in his sophomore season in Phoenix, Ekman-Larsson had 13 goals and 32 points, playing in all 82 regular season game for the Coyotes. He also had one goal and four points in 16 playoff games last year.
Ekman-Larsson, the Coyotes’ first-round, sixth overall, pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, was in the final year of his entry level contract.
