Video: Calgary’s Backlund tries his Forsberg move

Calgary Flames center Mikael Backlund was the latest to try something creative – although not an original – in a one-on-one showdown with an opposing goalie.

Trying to emulate his fellow countryman Peter Forsberg, Backlund, going in on a third-period penalty shot on Detroit Red Wings goalie Jonas Gustavsson, appeared to be going forehand, when he dragged the puck back to the right with one hand on his stick.

Gustavsson stuck out the left pad, rendering Backlund’s attempt unsuccessful. This follows on Mason Raymond’s spin-o-rama in the shootout Tuesday, and Kaspars Daugavins’ circus attempt the previous night.

Backlund’s move didn’t have any affect on the game Wednesday. The Flames scored three times in the third period for a 5-2 win over the visiting Wings.
