Ribeiro’s game-winner gives Caps needed confidence-booster

Things looked pretty grim for the Washington Capitals early on in their eventual 3-2 win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday. They pulled it out thanks in part to this odd Mike Ribeiro winner late in the third, though:

At first, it seemed like Alex Ovechkin was going to get robbed off at least a point. He expressed his bewilderment to the Washington Times’ Stephen Whyno.

Ovechkin reaction on missing breakaway: “I thought like, ‘Jesus, like please. Just goes in somehow’ and it went in.” #Caps

Ribeiro didn’t complain about that odd tally; he told the Washington Post’s Katie Carrera that he’d gladly “take the garbage back there.”

That ends what was an ugly three-game losing streak for the Caps, but it wasn’t all good news. Carrera reports that depth defenseman Tomas Kundratek needs an MRI after suffering a lower-body injury during the game.
