If the Sabres are going to beat the Devils today, they’re going to have to do it without their top scorer.

Forward Thomas Vanek will miss today’s game with an upper-body injury but, as Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald shares, they hope he’ll be back for tomorrow’s game against the Rangers.

Vanek missed yesterday’s practice as a precaution but whatever his upper-body ailment is, it wasn’t right enough for him to go today. Taking his spot in the lineup will be rookie Brian Flynn who will play in his first NHL game. Flynn has 32 points in 45 games in the AHL.

With new coach Ron Rolston running the show in Buffalo after being promoted in the interim from Rochester, he’d know better about who might work out in the meantime.
