Luongo: ‘I wasn’t good enough tonight’

Roberto Luongo has been fantastic splitting starts with Cory Schneider this season, but his first regulation loss of 2013 was a dramatic one. He reflected on Sunday’s 8-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings to Sportsnet’s Dan Murphy:

“When you let in that many it’s embarrassing,” Luongo said. “I wasn’t good enough tonight.”

Some wondered why the Vancouver Canucks didn’t decide to pull the 33-year-old netminder considering his struggles (he only faced 28 shots). Plenty of others made a wide array of trade jokes.

(It would be amusing if getting lit up and not getting pulled ends up being his final memory in Vancouver. Think of it like Patrick Roy’s departure from Montreal, minus just about all of the shock value.)

Luongo owned up to his tough night, but how many of the goals were his fault? Judge for yourself by checking out the game highlights:

Luongo walked into Sunday with a .941 save percentage, including a shutout in his last game. This meltdown plummeted that mark all the way down to .916.
