Patrick Marleau’s reign on National Hockey League goalies was put on hold Tuesday.
The 33-year-old San Jose Sharks winger was held to just one assist – coming on Joe Pavelski’s third goal of the season – in a 3-2 shootout win over the Anaheim Ducks.
Michal Handzus scored the only goal in the breakaway competition.
Marleau opened the season with four straight two-goal games – tying a record from the 1917-18 season – and added a single in a victory over the Vancouver Canucks.
Marleau, with his nine goals in six games, is now on pace for only 72 goals.
