Luongo to start again for Canucks

Roberto Luongo

The soap opera continues in Vancouver.

Canucks coach Alain Vigneault announced today that Roberto Luongo would make his second straight in goal when the Avalanche visit Rogers Arena tonight.

“My decision,” explained Vigneault. “It’s just my call. Got back yesterday and that’s what I decided.”

Without the trade speculation surrounding Luongo, the decision would make perfect sense. Quite simply, Luongo (0-0-2, .917 save percentage) has been better than Cory Schneider (2-2-0, .897) so far this season.

Monday in Los Angeles, Luongo was named second star after stopping 26 of 28 Kings shots in a 3-2 shootout loss.

Schneider’s last start, a 4-1 loss Sunday in San Jose, was decidedly less successful.

But with the Canucks actively trying to trade Luongo, Vigneault’s decision is predictably receiving its share of attention.
