Marleau first in over 95 years to score multiple goals in four straight to start the year

Patrick Marleau’s white-hot start to the season just continues to scorch on.

In the first period of this afternoon’s game against the Avalanche, Marleau scored two power play goals to extend his streak of multiple goal games to start the season at four. He’s the first player since the immortal Cy Denneny of the 1917-1918 Ottawa Senators to pull that off. And here you thought doing something Peter Stastny did in the 82-83 season was impressive.

Marleau’s two tallies give him eight goals on the season extending his NHL lead points lead (tied with Joe Thornton) to 11 as the Sharks won 4-0 to improve to 4-0-0.
