Matt Gilroy signs with Rangers; one year, $650K

Matt Gilroy

The Rangers added a bit of defensive depth for the season by welcoming back and old, young face.

The team announced they’ve signed Matt Gilroy to a one-year deal. Larry Brooks of the New York Post says it’s worth $650,000. Gilroy began his career with the Rangers during the 2009-10 season and spent two seasons with the Blueshirts.

Now he rejoins the team after spending last year with both Tampa Bay and Ottawa. Gilroy has been playing this season in the AHL with the Rangers’ affiliate in Hartford, Connecticut.

One thing’s for sure about the Rangers, they’re not lacking on depth on the blue line as they kept both Anton Stralman and Steve Eminger after last season. Put those two with Gilroy behind Ryan McDonagh, Dan Girardi, Marc Staal, Michael Del Zotto, and Stu Bickel and the Rangers will have the ability to rest guys as needed in the condensed schedule.
