Devils’ prospect Kerfoot (shoulder) done for the year

Alex Kerfoot

Alex Kerfoot, New Jersey’s fifth-round pick at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, is undergoing shoulder surgery today and will miss the remainder of the 2012-13 season.

Prior to the injury Kerfoot, 18, had been a scoring sensation with BCHL Coquitlam (Tier 2 Canadian junior) over the last two seasons.

He’s committed to play for Harvard beginning in 2013-14.

In addition to his exploits at the BCHL level, Kerfott also starred for Canada West in the annual World Junior A Challenge -- five points in four games at this year’s tourney -- and emerged as a diminutive (5-foot-10, 153 pounds) yet skilled offensive player with a high hockey IQ.

It’s also worth noting that Kerfoot is the son of Greg Kerfoot, the “reclusive millionaire” majority owner of Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps.
